Help Article: Troubleshooting HP ProDesk Desktop Computers Not Turning On

If your HP ProDesk desktop computer isn't turning on, follow these steps to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:

1. Check Power Supply

  • Ensure the power cable is securely connected to both the computer and the power outlet.
  • Verify the power outlet is working by plugging in another device.

2. Inspect the Power Button

  • Press the power button firmly. Sometimes, it might require a bit more pressure.
  • Look for any signs of damage or wear on the power button.

3. Examine the Power Indicator Lights

  • Check for any lights on the front or back of the computer.
    • No lights could indicate a power supply issue.
    • Blinking lights might signal a hardware problem.

4. Listen for Beeps or Fan Noise

  • No sound could mean the computer isn't receiving power.
  • Beeping sounds can indicate specific hardware issues. Refer to the HP ProDesk manual for beep codes.

5. Disconnect External Devices

  • Unplug all external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.) and try turning on the computer again. Sometimes, peripherals can cause startup issues.

6. Reset the Power Supply

  • Unplug the power cable from the computer.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds to discharge any residual power.
  • Reconnect the power cable and try turning on the computer.

7. Contact Technical Support

  • If none of the above steps work, it might be time to contact technical support for further assistance. You can reach out to techsupport@legacyinc.com or call 919-424-5077, option #3 for more help.

By following these steps, you can often identify and resolve the issue preventing your HP ProDesk desktop computer from turning on.
